Equipped with space suits, golf clubs and a flag, the Doctor and Rose are planning to live it up, Apollo mission-style, on the Moon. But the TARDIS has other plans, landing them instead in a village on the south coast of England; a picture-postcard sort of place where nothing much happens. Until now... Archaeologists have turned up a Roman mosaic, circa 70 A.D., depicting mythical scenes, grapes - and a Dalek.
Pg 4 A pub, Winchelham, present day (pg 11).
Pg 21 A disused nuclear bunker, Northampton (pg 19).
Pg 80 A market square, Winchelham.
Pg 101 The Winchelham village green.
Pg 104 In a courtyard arch, Durham University, 1970 (pg 103).
Pg 3 "That'll keep a few historians in jobs in the forty-ninth century." Possibly reference to the Doctor's original backstory, seen in the Pilot.
Pg 15 "The dull smack of metal on flesh caught at Rose's heart. [...] Her head full of thoughts of her dad, she sprang from the bench and raced across the green." Father's Day.
Pg 19 "Even after nine centuries of travel through space and time, it could still surprise him." This retcons Aliens of London's line about the Doctor's age, suggesting that he's been travelling for nine hundred years, not that he's nine hundred years old. Which is quite a nice fix. Pity about Voyage of the Damned, then. Addendum by J.A. Young: The "nine centuries of travel" paraphrases the Doctor
in The Empty Child -- the scene when he's talking to the cat.
Pg 23 "Yeah, it's all the TARDIS's fault. It's got all these emergency systems." One of which is the HADS, which this seems to be. Seen in The Krotons and never again on TV, but the novels do enjoy it so.
Pg 25 "Nero. Takes me back." The Romans.
Pg 36 "Many battles, one final war." The Time War, mentioned a lot in the new series.
Pg 44 "You looked into the time vortex. You used its power." The Parting of the Ways. But see Continuity Cock-Ups.
Pg 45 "'There's an old saying,' said the Doctor, 'dates from about 4000: "Never turn your back on a dead Dalek."'" The Daleks' Master Plan.
Pg 48 "Perhaps they imprinted the Dalek factor in the human race, or tried to." Evil of the Daleks (and The Dalek Factor).
Pg 50 "He knew he had to kill it and kill it now. Could he?" Genesis of the Daleks.
Pg 51 "It darted into the lift shaft, switched into its anti-gravity mode and started to rise." We saw this most notably in Remembrance of the Daleks and Dalek (as well as every Dalek story since).
Pg 60 "I might be in there under Oncoming Storm, The." That the Daleks call him this was mentioned in The Parting of the Ways. But see Continuity Cock-Ups.
Pg 62 "The destroyer, the oncoming storm." The Doctor's also been called 'The Destroyer of Worlds' by the Daleks (Timewyrm: Revelation, pg 53). Although see Continuity Cock-Ups again.
Pg 66 "'My vision is impaired!' it shrieked. 'I cannot see!'" Like an old friend. This line appears in about 50% of all Dalek stories, seemingly.
Pg 68 "The Doctor gritted his teeth. 'No second chances.'" The Christmas Invasion.
Pg 69 "There were other animals too, flying pests and filthy dogs." The Daleks described pigeons as flying pests in Evil of the Daleks.
Pg 79 "The Dalek factor is too powerful." Evil of the Daleks.
Pg 84 "Its mission was to spread the Dalek factor to all humans" Evil of the Daleks.
Pg 85 "The capsule was blasted towards Earth in the final battle of the Time War." The End of the World et al.
Pg 90 "She remembered becoming the bad wolf, looking into the Time Vortex, wiping away a million Daleks with the wave of one hand." The Parting of the Ways. And see Continuity Cock-Ups.
"Time Ring, it's like a personal TARDIS." Genesis of the Daleks.
Pg 95 "People talking too loud on their phones in trains. Pointless internet arguments, with people you don't even know. Kylie." The latter of whom would go on to appear in Voyage of the Damned.
Reference to Jackie Tyler.
Pg 96 "There was a time, thousands of years back, when there were only a few humans left - I saw them." An Unearthly Child, Only Human.
Pg 100 "No second chances." The Christmas Invasion.
